§ 6:503. Inspection by director.

  • The director shall conduct a careful antemortem inspection of all animals and poultry brought to the slaughterhouse for the purpose of being slaughtered and shall make a careful postmortem inspection of all carcasses of the animals and poultry, the meat or meat products of which shall be sold, offered for sale or otherwise disposed of for human consumption, and the meat of such animals or poultry found fit for human consumption shall be stamped or marked with an appropriate stamp or tag by the director. No poultry may be approved without meeting the requirements of eviscerated or ready-to-cook poultry. After such inspection the meat or meat products from such animal or poultry may be sold, offered for sale, or otherwise disposed of.
