§ 15:25. Greater Baton Rouge Airport District Police Force.
(a)
There shall be as provided by Legislative Act 151 of 1969 a Greater Baton Rouge Airport District Police Force. It shall be headed by the director of aviation. The force shall be responsible only within the airport district for the Greater Baton Rouge Metropolitan area except when directed off the area by the director or other law enforcement official in response to an airport emergency or incident for the preservation of public peace and order, the prevention of crime, the apprehension of criminals, the protection of the rights of persons and property and the enforcement of the laws of the state, and the ordinances of the city-parish, as they exist now and as they shall be amended. All members of the force shall have the same powers and duties with respect to the enforcement of criminal laws as are now or may hereafter be conferred by the laws of the state on police officers.
(b)
The airport district shall have the powers and duties relating to the organization and activities of the police force that are not in conflict with Legislative Act 151 of 1969 and the general laws of the state. The director of aviation shall be in direct command of the force, and shall have the power to appoint and remove all other officers and employees of the force. He shall assign all members of the force to the respective posts, shifts, details and duties.
(c)
The district shall make rules and regulations consistent with the Plan of Government, the ordinances of the city-parish, and laws of the state, concerning the operation of the police force, the conduct of its officers and employees, and their equipment, training and discipline, and the penalties to be imposed for infraction of such rules and regulations, which when approved by the district shall be binding on all members of the force.
(d)
The officers of the Greater Baton Rouge Airport District Police Force are hereby recognized as municipal police officers as defined in R.S. 33:2218.1 et seq.
