§ 11:430. Parking meters generally.

  • (a)

    The director of the department of public works is hereby authorized to establish parking meter zones at such locations upon city-parish streets or public parking areas where it is determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that the installation of parking meters will promote the regulation, control and inspection of the parking of vehicles.

    (b)

    Each parking meter shall be placed upon the curb, sidewalk or neutral ground alongside of or next to the individual parking place as determined by the director of the department of public works, who shall designate the parking space adjacent to each parking meter for which such meter is to be used by appropriate marking on the curb and/or pavement parking meter spaces so designated shall be of appropriate length and width so as to be accessible from the traffic lines of a street.

    (c)

    Each parking meter shall be so set as to display a signal to indicate the parking time allowed upon the deposit of a coin or coins of the United States and, upon the expiration of such allowable time, a signal that the lawful parking period has expired.

    (d)

    Each parking meter shall bear thereon a legend indicating the days and hours when the requirement to deposit coins therein shall apply, the value of the coins to be deposited, and the limited period of time for which parking is lawfully permitted in the parking meter zone in which such meter is located.

    (e)

    The following parking meter rates shall be charged:

    (1)

    Zone A (that area bounded on the north by the State Capitol, on the east by the interstate, on the south by Government Street, and on the west by the Mississippi River) (two-hour and one-hour limits):

    5 cents ..... 6 minutes
    10 cents ..... 12 minutes
    25 cents ..... 30 minutes
    50 cents ..... 1 hour

     

    (2)

    Zone B (All areas not included in Zone A) (1-hour limit):

    5 cents ..... 12 minutes
    10 cents ..... 24 minutes
    25 cents ..... 1 hour

     

    Such parking meter rates to be effective January 1, 1988.
