§ 11:201. Commercial vehicles prohibited from using certain streets.

  • (a)

    When signs are erected giving notice thereof, no person shall operate any commercial vehicle exceeding the gross weight established by the department of public works; except that such vehicles may be operated thereon for the purpose of delivering or picking up materials or merchandise and then only by entering such street at the intersection nearest the destination of the vehicle and proceeding thereon no farther than the nearest intersection thereafter.

    (b)

    All trucks having more than two (2) axles shall be restricted to the streets shown in section 11:337 except where local pickups and deliveries require travel on other routes. The department of public works shall erect signs on each of the streets shown in section 11:337 designating each of such streets as a truck route; and when such signs have been so erected, no truck having more than two (2) axles shall be operated on any other streets than those set forth in section 11:337 except for the purpose of local pickups and deliveries, as provided above. Where pickups and deliveries are required to be made, they shall be made in a direct traffic pattern from the nearest designated truck route.

    (c)

    No commercial vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of fifteen thousand (15,000) pounds or more shall be operated on any street other than a designated truck route, except for the purpose of local pickups and deliveries. Where pickups and deliveries are required to be made, they shall be made in a direct traffic pattern from the nearest designated truck route.

    (d)

    Notwithstanding subsections (a), (b) and (c) of this section, an owner or operator of a truck having two (2) or more axles shall be allowed to drive the cab of such vehicle to and from his residence if his residence is in a rural district and is not within a recognized subdivision. Travel to and from the residence shall be made in a direct traffic pattern from the nearest designated truck route.
