§ 8:326. Metal conduit required; exception.

  • (a)

    Without regard to location, all buildings (except residences) such as factories, hotels, churches, theaters, schoolhouses, office buildings, elevator shafts, hospitals, asylums or sanitariums of any kind designed for the care and treatment of persons, assembly houses, or public buildings, stores, warehouses, mills, grain elevators, oil or service stations, garages, stables, dairies, and all buildings of a commercial and public character and all other buildings where the electrical installation would be generally subjected to mechanical injury wherein electrical wiring or conductors are installed, such wiring and conductors must be protected by approved metal conduit, and in all such existing buildings where renewals or extensions of the electrical wiring are made, the wiring, whether concealed or open, must be protected by approved metal conduit.

    (b)

    Rigid nonmetallic conduit may be used under all circumstances where metal conduit is permitted, provided that all such rigid nonmetallic conduit must be installed in accordance with and meet the requirements of Article 347 of the current edition of the National Electrical Code.

    (c)

    Mobile homes and/or modular units intended for office use only, which bear the label of a recognized testing agency, may be excluded from the metal conduit requirement above.
