§ 13:12.1. Illegal use of 911 emergency communication system.
It shall be unlawful for any person to call or contact the emergency communication system by dialing 911 for any purpose other than a legitimate emergency posing danger to life or property.
In the case of a minor making illegal calls to 911, the parent or legal guardian shall be held responsible for the illegal calls.
The trier of fact may infer that an illegal use of 911 emergency communication system has occurred whenever a call is made to the 911 number and information other than that relating to an emergency as set forth above is communicated or whenever repeated calls originate from any telephone number without any evidence that some emergency existed at that number.
Any person convicted of a violation of the provisions of this section shall be fined not less than two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) and not more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) and/or imprisoned for not more than six (6) months at the discretion of the court.
(Ord. No. 8836, § 1, 1-11-89)
Editor's note
Section 1 of Ord. No. 8836, adopted Jan. 11, 1989, added § 13:13. Inclusion as such would have necessitated the renumbering of existing §§ 13:13—13:19 as §§ 13:14—13:20, thus eliminating the parallel numbering of this title with R.S. title 14. Therefore, in order to maintain alphabetical sequence of catchlines and still retain the parallel numbering with R.S. title 14, of Ord. No. 8934, adopted June 14, 1989, renumbered the provisions as § 13:12.1.
