§ 11:357. Authority to erect stop signs and yield-right-of-way signs.

  • (a)

    Whenever any ordinance of this parish designates and declares a through street it shall be the duty of the director of the department of public works to place and maintain a stop sign or a yield-right-of-way sign on each and every street intersecting such through street unless traffic at any such intersection is controlled at all times by traffic control signals. The determination as to whether a stop sign or a yield-right-of-way sign shall be erected at said intersections shall be made by the director of the department of public works upon the basis of an engineering and traffic study.

    (b)

    The director of public works is hereby authorized to determine and designate intersections where particular traffic hazards exist and have stop signs, yield signs and other similar traffic-control devices erected and put into operation without the need of an engineering and/or traffic study wherever he shall deem an intersectional traffic hazard to exist in order to preserve the safety of vehicular traffic within the city and parish.
