§ 11:356. Residents may petition to reduce speed limit.
Latest version.
When sixty-five (65) percent of the property owners on a residential street in a recognized
subdivision of the parish petition the department of public works to reduce the speed
limit on that street to twenty-five (25) miles per hour, the department shall, after
confirming the authenticity of the signatures, conduct a study of the street, and
if the study confirms that the requested speed reduction is appropriate, shall reduce
the speed limit on that street as requested and post appropriate signs advising of
the changed speed limit. Section 11:336 shall be amended to list the name of the street, along with the speed limit. The
department shall adopt rules relative to the form and filing of the petition and the
method of confirming signatures. Only one (1) signature per residence shall be permitted
on the petition.
