§ 11:356. Residents may petition to reduce speed limit.

  • When sixty-five (65) percent of the property owners on a residential street in a recognized subdivision of the parish petition the department of public works to reduce the speed limit on that street to twenty-five (25) miles per hour, the department shall, after confirming the authenticity of the signatures, conduct a study of the street, and if the study confirms that the requested speed reduction is appropriate, shall reduce the speed limit on that street as requested and post appropriate signs advising of the changed speed limit. Section 11:336 shall be amended to list the name of the street, along with the speed limit. The department shall adopt rules relative to the form and filing of the petition and the method of confirming signatures. Only one (1) signature per residence shall be permitted on the petition.
